June 5-Gonzaga University second baseman Eric Rodland has been named a third team Academic All-American by Verizon and College Sports Information Directors of America.
Rodland earns third team Academic All-American honors for the second consecutive season as the junior from Snohomish, Wash., has accumulated a 3.70 GPA in mechanical engineering. This season Rodland finished second on the Bulldogs team with a .345 batting average en route to earning first team All-West Coast Conference honors. Rodland had a career-high six home runs and moved into tenth place on the Gonzaga career doubles list.
Nebraska's Jeff Leise was named the Verizon Academic All-American of the Year for baseball with a 3.85 GPA in Psychology.
