WCC Cross Country Runners of the Month MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Team Notes Gonzaga Bulldogs -The Gonzaga men finished seventh at the WCC Championships with 176 points, while the women earned a sixth place finish with 192 points. -Colby Litzenberger took 20th for the Bulldog men in 26:20 over the 8K course, while Brett Withers wasn't far behind, coming in 26th with a time of 26:36. The duo were the only Bulldog returnees to the championship from last season. -Molly Funk paced the Bulldog women, finishing 30th in 23:44 over the 6K layout. Laura Volcheff was 34th in 23:54 and Madeleine Gianotti, the only Bulldog woman who competed last year in the championship, was 41st in 24:45. -The Zags are a young team and will look to build upon their program with many of their top runners to return to competition next season. Loyola Marymount Lions -The Lion men finished second at the WCC Championships, tying their highest finish in 1981, with 59 points. The women nabbed a third place finish with 68 points. -Last year's champion, Laura Mickelson, fnished second overall with a time of 20:56. Freshman Tara Erdmann placed fifth overall 21:26, to earn WCC Freshman of the Year honors. -Junior Trevor Wiseman set an LMU WCC Championship record with an 8k time of 25:30 to capture fifth place overall and lead the Lions to the finish. Junior Lino Almeida finished second for the Lions, eighth overall, in 25:36. -Head coach Scott Guerrero earned co-WCC Coach of the Year honors on the men's side, sharing the accolade with Portland's Rob Conner. -After finding great success at the WCC Championships, the Lions are set to compete at Regionals. Pepperdine Waves -Both the Pepperdine men's and women's teams earned a fifth place finish at the WCC Championships in Belmont, California. -Chris Ogle, a senior in his first year with the Waves, ran the 8k Crystal Springs course in 25:39. He led the Pepperdine men to a fifth-place finish, up one spot from their sixth place finish in 2006. -Juniors Brie Carroll and Courtney Young finished the 6k race one second apart, 22:39 and 22:40, for 21st and 22 place, respectively. With this time, Young and Carroll were the only two Pepperdine runners to break the 22-minute mark. -Coach Robert Radnoti said. "He [Ogle] was in the top group for much of the race in some very good competition. He broke his PR for the season by 39 seconds." -The Waves head to Springfield, Oregon to compete in the NCAA West Regionals (11/10). Portland Pilots -The Pilot men's team claimed their 29th consecutive WCC Team Championship, while the women earned their 11th team title in the last 12 years. -Zuber Ahmed finished second overall with a time of 25:25 to lead the men. Mike Quackenbush, the defending WCC champion, placed fourth (25:28) and sophomore Tommy Betterbed finished sixth (25:31). -Dana Morgan claimed the individual title with a time of 20:32 to lead the Pilots to their sixth consecutive team championship. -The Pilots will now focus on the upcoming NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Oregon at Springfield Country Club on Nov. 10. Saint Mary's Gaels -The Gaels men's and women's team finished sixth and eighth at the WCC Championships, respectively. -Mario Mendoza finished first for the Gaels, 12th overall, with a time of 25:44. Mendoza's time is not only his personal best by 56 seconds, but also set a new record for the Gaels at the Crystal Springs Course. -Karrie Hagedorn finished first for the women and also set a new pesonal record with a time of 22:42. -Saint Mary's harriers Mendoza and Hagedorn along with Nick Shea and Tess Grannemann are ready to compete at the NCAA West Regionals this weekend. San Diego Toreros -The Torero women nabbed seventh in the WCC Championships while the men finished in eighth place. -The Toreros finished in 8th place tallying 193 points while the women posted a 7th place finish with 204 points. -Junior Chris Jacobs recorded a team high 9th place overall finish, the only Torero to finish in the top 10 with a time of 25:39, and earned All-WCC honors for his feat. Freshman Kevin O'Malley finished 2nd for the Toreros, 38th overall with a time of 27:20. -Freshman Erica Enyon finished first for the USD women and 32nd overall for USD with a time of 23.48. Right behind her was teammate Laura Wells in 36th place overall in a time of 24:09. San Francisco Dons -The Dons are celebrating a victorious campaign at the WCC Championships with the women earning second place, the highest finish in school history, and claiming the men's individual title. -Cheyne Inman set a personal record over the Crystal Springs Course 8k with a time of 25:20 to claim the individual title. Inman's feat marks the first time in 29 years a non-Portland runner has nabbed the crown. -The women's team had five runners finish in the top 12, led by Jennifer Hartford who placed fourth overall with a time of 21:18. Finishing close behind were Fallon Heffernan (sixth, 21:29), Michelle Born (10th, 21:52), Lucy Miller (11th, 21:54) and Zita Mezei (12th, 21:55). -Both the men's and women's teams are set to compete at the NCAA West Regionals in Springfield, Oregon this upcoming Saturday. Santa Clara Broncos -The Santa Clara men's team earned an impressive third place finish, while the women nabbed fourth at the WCC Championships in Belmont, Calif. -Senior Michael Delaurenti ran his best race ever at Crystal Springs with an 8k time of 25:27 to finish third overall. Freshman Chris Sampson and sophomore Alex Harkins both earned All-WCC Honorable mention for their 14th and 15th finishes place respectively. -For the women, freshman Melissa Conlin was the top finisher for the Broncos, running a time of 21:48 in the 6k for 8th place. Veronica Vazquez, Danielle Miller, and Annie Murphy-Hagan did a great job of running in a pack, finishing 16th, 17th, and 18th respectively. -The Bronco men and women will now travel to the NCAA West Regionals (11/10).
