PENSACOLA, Fla. - Top-ranked West Florida earned some revenge against the team that was responsible for knocking them out of the last year's national tournament. On Friday, West Florida faced stiff competition but survived with a 5-4 win over fifth-ranked Lynn at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida (20-2) won their seventh straight, while Lynn's (13-3) nine-match winning streak came to an end. The victory marked the seventh consecutive season that West Florida has recorded at least 20 wins.
West Florida took two of three doubles matches as the fourth-ranked team of Nicolas Barrientos (Cali, Colombia) and Dante Bottini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won in the first position. Diego Zorzi (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Luis Arboleda (Medellin, Colombia) remained undefeated on the season with a win in the second position.
Each team won three singles matches. In the first position, ninth-ranked Bottini took the first set from top-ranked Lorenzo Cava. But Cava won the next two sets to earn the win. West Florida recorded a pair of three-set wins in the fifth position by Arboleda and the sixth position by Luiz Bernardi (Campinas, Brazil).
West Florida will complete the regular season against Division I Southeastern Louisiana. The match will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
