West Florida Dominates in Season Opening Dual Meet

PENSACOLA, FLA.: The University of West Florida women’s cross country squad captured the top 10 places en route to a first place finish in a duel meet with Belhaven College on Saturday at the West Florida campus.

The West Florida “A” team finished first with a score of 15. Dawn Kane finished the 5K race first with a time of 21:09. Three freshman followed Kane. Jessica Spurgeon placed second with a time of 21:23, followed by Nicole Stanley in third at 21:32, and Margaret Harter’s time of 21:38 for fourth. Sophomore Diana Sitar rounded out the top five with a time of 21:43. The UWF “B” team finished second with a score of 50, followed by Belhaven with 76.

West Florida will prepare to host the annual Argonaut Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Beulah (approximately eight miles west of campus off of US Alt. 90). The event will begin at 8 am.
