Beth Dunkenberger Announces the Signing of Kala Greene to the Women's Basketball Team

April 17, 2002

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University women's basketball head coach Beth Dunkenberger announced today that Kala Greene has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Catamount basketball team in the fall.

Greene (Morristown, Tenn./Morristown West HS) averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game this past season. She scored over 2,500 points in her career at Morristown West, and pulled down over 1,000 rebounds. Greene was a AAA All-State selection her sophomore through senior years and a State All-Tournament selection her junior year. She was named Conference Player of the Year her sophomore through senior seasons, District MVP her freshman through junior years, as well as Northeast Tennessee Player of the Year during her last three years. Greene was a four-year starter and letter-winner at Morristown West, and helped her team earn a 107-25 record during her tenure.

"Kala is an unbelievable scorer," said Dunkenberger. "What makes her so hard to guard is the number of ways she can score. As a power forward, she scores equally as well from behind the three-point line as she does attacking in the paint."
