Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina sophomore Tripp Morrow fired a tournament-low 33 on the front nine en route to a first round 68 to lead after 18 holes at the Shoot-out at Wild Wing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Morrow's four-under round help lead the Catamounts to a first-round 285 to lead at the par 72, 6,853-yard Wild Wings golf course.
Western leads Coastal Carolina by four strokes after the Chanticleers carded a first day 289. Tusculum College (296), South Carolina State (301) and Appalachian State (302) round out the top five.
Morrow leads Nick Kinzer of Tusculum by two strokes, with teammate senior Chase Kress in a two-way tie for third at one-under, 71. Kress is tied with Zack Amole from Coastal Carolina.
Rounding out the top ten is a five-way tie for fifth, which includes Western Carolina junior Blake Wray.
The Western Carolina "B" team currently stands in seventh place after carding a first-round 307, only five strokes out of the top five. Western's second entry into the tournament was led by junior Matt Flueckiger who fired a pair of 38's to finish tied for 25th with a 76.
The final round will be played on Sunday, October 31st.
