UAB Wins WCU Intercollegiate Golf Tournament; Cats Place Ninth

Cashiers, N.C. - The University of Alabama-Birmingham fired a 289 on Tuesday at the 2005 WCU Intercollegiate, played at the par 71 Trillium Golf Links, to finish the two-day event with a two-over par 570 and win the annual event by 18 strokes over second-place Radford. Host team Western Carolina placed ninth.

Lipscomb University carded the low round of the day, shooting 292 behind Parker Beck's 67, to move up to third, one stroke behind the runner-up Highlanders.

UAB also claimed individual medalist honors. Garrett Osborn, who missed the Trillium course record by one stroke with a 65 on Monday, shot even par 71 on Tuesday to tally a 36-hole score of 136. Charelston Southern's Shawn Hall and Elon's Jayson Judy were runners-up, each carding two-day totals of 140.

For Western, Matt Cook turned in an even par 71 on Tuesday and finished with a 36-hole score of 145 to place eighth. The Murphy native has now played in 10 career events Western and has eight top 10 finishes. Keith Tyburski, playing as an individual, was Western's second-best scorer at the event. He turned in consecutive rounds of 74 to shoot 148 and tied for 15th.
