Western Carolina fired rounds of 292-298 for a two-day total of 590 to place third in the Lipscomb University Fall Classic, played at Temple Hills Country Club. The Catamounts placed three individuals in the top 10, including Tripp Morrow, Tim Eckberg and Keith Tyburski.
Morrow, a freshman from Forest City, N.C., carded a one-under 71 on day one and, despite shooting 73 on day two, moved up one spot to third (tie) with his total of 144. Morrow's total was only one stroke off the medalist total. Eckberg, a senior from Walnut, Ill., had a two-day score of 146 (72-74) to finish fifth (tie). Tyburski, a sophomore from Hamilton, N.Y., was playing his first tournament of the season. He turned in rounds of 74-73 for a total of 147 and a tie for ninth. Chase Kress (27th-tie) and Blake Wray (30th) rounded out Western's team with totals of 154 and 155, respectively.
Host Lipscomb won the event with a two-day score of 578, beating runner-up North Alabama (581) by three strokes. North Alabama's James Porter and Frank Langevin each posted a 143 with Porter edging his teammate in a playoff for medalist honors.
Western Carolina will return to action Nov. 10-11, hosting the WCU/Sapphire Valley Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Cashiers, N.C.
