WCU Men's Golf Places 15th at Chattanooga Intercollegiate

Oct. 16, 2001

Signal Mountain, Tenn. - The Western Carolina men's golf team fired rounds of 302-294-295 for a total of 891 to place 15th at the 18-team field Chattanooga Intercollegiate, held Monday and Tuesday at Signal Mountain Country Club. The Catamounts three-day total was two strokes better than the previous team-best of 893, which had been accomplished on two occasions.

The Cats were led by senior Greg Lewis, who carded a six-over 219 over three rounds to tie for 27th. The total ranks as one of the lowest three-day scores in WCU history and was a career-best effort for Lewis. Fellow senior Lee Cline was three strokes off Lewis' pace, tying for 39th with a 222. Andrew Paduch (223), Chase Kress (228) and Gorham Bradley (242) rounded out Western's fivesome.

Jacksonville State won the two-day event, as its team shot a six-under 846. The team was led by Angel Monguzzi, who claimed individual medalist honors, with an eight-under 205 (63-69-73).

The WCU men's golf team will return to action Oct. 22-23 at the annual Chris Cothran Invitational, hosted by Radford at Drapper Valley (Va.) Country Club.
