Western's Three-Day Total of 871 at Sonic/Chattanooga Intercollegiate Sets School Record

Signal Mountain, Tenn. - After setting three school records through 36 holes of play on Monday at the Sonic/Chattanooga Intercollegiate, two more Catamount records fell on Tuesday as the event concluded at the Signal Mountain Country Club. Western carded a three-day total of 871, which betters the previous school record by one stroke, to place 11th in the 15-team field. Also, sophomore Blake Wray set a WCU individual record for a three-round event, firing a 210 to place sixth (tied).

Wray (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca HS) records his first ever top 10 finish as his 210 establishes a school record by one stroke. On Monday, Wray set a school record for shooting 135 for 36 holes. He had also tied a school record with a 67 in the first round, only to have teammate Tripp Morrow (Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford HS) shatter the mark with a 64 in the second round. Morrow, playing in his second collegiate event, turned in a one-over par 214 to place 20th (tied). Morrow's 214 is the third-best three-round score in WCU history.

After the three days, Wray now owns the second-best, single-round score with a 67; the third-best, single-round score with a 68; the best two-round score with a 135 and the best three-round score with a 210 in Western Carolina history. Morrow owns the best one-round score with a 64; the third-best, two-round score with a 139 and the third-best, three-round score with a 214 in school history.

The Catamounts end the tournament setting team records for lowest one-round score (282, lowest two-round score (571) and lowest three-round score (871).

Rounding out Western's scoring Tim Eckberg (75-75-72=222/46th) , Matt Flueckiger (72-75-78=225/58th) and Alex Arrigo (84-78-78=240/75th).

Jacksonville State won the two-day event with a score of 832, defeating host team Chattanooga by 19 strokes.

Western Carolina will return to action Oct. 27-28 at the Lipscomb Invitational, held at Temple Hills Country Club in Brentwood, Tenn.
