Florence, S.C. - Western Carolina slipped two spots in the overall team standings into a two-way tie for fifth on Monday at the 2007 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Country Club of South Carolina. Junior Andres Cuenca finished the day in the same position in which he began, shooting one-over on the day to stand in third with a two-round score of 143.

Four Mocs turned in under par scores in the second round to help Chattanooga hold the lead at the event. Chattanooga shot a 280 on day two for a 573 total while defending champion Georgia Southern, moved up two spots after turning in a 284. Elon and Wofford are tied at third with a 588 two-day total, followed by Western and the College of Charleston in fifth.

Individually, Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge and Davidson's Alex Knoll are tied for first after two rounds with a 142 total. Hodge, Elon's Jayson Judy and Georgia Southern's Drew Lethem all carded a low-round 69 on day two, with Judy and Lethem standing tied for fourth with Georgia Southern's Jordan Johnstun.

Cuenca remained in third place and is one stroke behind the leaders. The Fuengirola, Spain native opened with back-to-back pars on the front nine before consecutive bogies on hole number three and four moved him to two over where he stood through nine. Birdies on the par four 10th and 14th moved him back even until a double-bogey on 15 dropped him back to two under. Cuenca carded a birdie on number 17 to finish at one under.

Junior Matt Cook finished at four over, 76, on the day, dropping into a tie for 16th overall. Two bogies on the front had him making the turn at two over, with two bogies and a double-bogey on number 15 dropping him to six-over on Monday. Yet, the Murphy, N.C., native rallied with birdies on 17 and 18 to finish at four-over.

Senior Tripp Morrow shaved four strokes off his opening round score to shoot three-over, 75, on Monday.
