Catamount Men's Golf Falls Off on Sunday; Finishes 20th at Furman Intercollegiate

Greenville, S.C. - Only one Catamount men's golfer broke 80 on Sunday as the Western Carolina men's golf team slipped two positions, finishing 20th at the 38th annual Furman Intercollegiate at the 6,825-yard, on-campus Furman University Golf Club. Patrick Lamb led Catamounts, who shot 920 over the 54-hole event, with a 77 on Sunday to finish tied for 79th.

Virginia Tech (297-286-290=873) won the tournament, holding a four-stroke advantage over second-place Elon (287-299-291=877). Jacksonville and Marshall were tied for third with identical three-round totals of 882, with Old Dominion and East Carolina rounding out the top five tied at 884 apiece.

Elon's Jason Judy turned in a 69 on the final 18 holes to win the individual crown by three strokes. Judy ended play with a 211 (71-71-69). There was a three-way tie for second place as Jacksonville's Duncan Stewart, Rhode Island's Ben Spitz and Stuart Carrihill of Charleston Southern all carded totals of 214.

Junior Matt Cook, who was shooting one-over 145 entering the final round finished with a final round tally of 81 to fall into a tie for 59th, the highest finishing Catamount. Freshman Ricky Stout fired 80 on Sunday to finished tied for 74th (75-74-80=229), just in front of classmate, Lamb, tied for 79th at 230 (80, 73, 77). Other WCU scorers included Michael Chapin (t-101st, 238) and Tripp Morrow (107th, 243).

The Catamounts hope to have second-leading scorer, Andres Cuenca, back in the lineup next weekend with they return to action in Spartanburg, S.C., in the Wofford Invitational at the Carolina Country Club.
