Trussville, Ala. - Western Carolina shot rounds of 296 and 300 as a team on Monday to stand in a two-way tie for seventh place at the Samford Invitational at the 6,987-yard Limestone Springs Golf Course. Senior Tripp Morrow carded a season-low 68 in the first round to stand tied for first after 18 holes and stands in a six-way tie for sixth-place after two rounds to lead the Catamounts.

The third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Led by three golfers in the individual top 15, Eastern Kentucky (283-290=573) holds a six-stroke advantage over second-place New Orleans (296-283=579) entering the final round. Troy and Austin Peay State (580) are one stroke behind New Orleans, tied for third, with Tennessee Tech in fifth place with a two-round total of 586.

EKU's Shaun McConnell shot two rounds below par at 68 and 70 for a 36-hole tally of 138 to lead the 84-golfer field. Jose Toledo of New Orleans is in second, two strokes in arrears after rounds of 71 and 69.

Morrow finished the first two rounds firing even par (68-76=144) and stand in a six-way tie for sixth place overall. Sophomore transfer Andres Cuenca is tied for 20th after rounds of 75 and 72 (147), with freshman Cody Walker tied for 41st after scoring rounds of 75 and 78 (153).

WCU junior Matt Cook struggled in the first round shooting 80 marking back-to-back rounds of eight-over par dating back to the Lonnie D. Small Intercollegiate last weekend in Buies Creek. The Murphy, N.C., native rallied, though, to shoot 74 to recover into a tie for 44th (154) entering the final round. Rounding out the Catamount golfers was freshman Ricky Stout, who carded rounds of 78 and 80 to stand tied for 53rd.
