Rock Hill, S.C. - Tim Eckberg improved by 10 strokes, firing a one-under 71 on Tuesday, as Western Carolina moved up two spots to finish 13th at the annual Winthrop-Waterford Invitational at Waterford Country Club with a two-round score of 625.
Eckberg (81-71) and freshman Tripp Morrow (74-78) each carded a two-round total of 152 to tie for 23rd. Blake Wray improved by six strokes on day two for a two-day total of 158 (82-76) to finish 51st. Matt Flueckiger and Alex Arrigo fired identical rounds of 85-78 for a total of 163 and finished 68th (tied).
SoCon foe UNC Greensboro (594) held off Chattanooga (595) by one stroke to win the annual event. Individually, Campbell's Ulf Hedlund took medalist honors with a six-under 138 (71-67).
Western Carolina will remain on the road this weekend, playing in the UTC/Hunter-Geico Direct Spring Invitational. The two-day event (Mar. 13-14) will be played at the Hunter Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
