WCU freshman golfer Tripp Morrow (Forest City, N.C.) fired a first-round 74 and stands in 10th (tied) after 18 holes at the annual Winthrop-Waterford Invitational, played Monday afternoon at par 72 Waterford Golf Club. The Cats carded a first round score of 322 and are in 15th (tied) place after day one.
On a windy day in Rock Hill, S.C., Morrow was the only Catamount to shot in the 70's as WCU senior Tim Eckberg shot an 81, followed by Blake Wray's 82 with Matt Flueckiger and Alex Arrigo each shooting 85.
UNC Greensboro and Campbell currently lead the two-day event, each turning in a 299. Appalachian State's David Thomas is the individual leader through 18 holes, shooting 69. Ulf Hedlund (Campbell) is second with a 71 while four golfers shot even par 72 and three golfers came in at one over par 73. Morrow is one of eight golfers to shoot 74 through the first 18 holes.
The annual event will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
