WCU Men's Golf Finishes 6th at Campbell's Hargrove Davis Spring Classic

Matt Cook Places 3rd; Four Strokes Out of First

Buies Creek, N.C. - Western Carolina, playing its first event of the spring, fired a 609 over the final 36 holes to move up three place and place sixth at Campbell's Hargrove Davis Spring Classic, played at a windy Keith Hills Country Club No. 1. Western tallied a 54-hole score of 919, which was just six strokes out of third. Sophomore Matt Cook carded a four-over 220 to place third, four strokes out of first. In this Cook's 11th event as a Catamount all-time, he registered his seventh top five and ninth top 10.

In addition to Cook, Western was able to make its charge over the final 36 holes thanks to Matt Flueckiger. After an opening round 84, Flueckiger bounced back to fire a 77 in round two and 74 in round three. He finished with a 235 and tied for 42nd. Blake Wray had a consistent three rounds, 78-76-78, and his total of 232 tied him for 28th. Keith Tyburski (237) and Tripp Morrow (239) rounded out the Catamount fivesome.

Western Carolina will return to action Mar. 18-19 at the El Diablo Intercollegiate. The event, hosted by Marshall, will be played at the El Diablo Golf & Country Club in Citrus Springs, Fla.
