Cullowhee, N.C. - Liberty, S.C., resident Richard McClellan is this week's recipient of four free tickets to a Catamount home game after his question was picked in the weekly ÒAsk Kent BriggsÓ promotion. McClellan, who has won tickets to the Georgia Southern game, asked Western's first-year coach, ÒHow do you and your staff prepare your team mentally after a tough loss for the next game?Ó
Coach Briggs's reply was the following. ÒWe put everything into preparing for a game and, when you perform with all your heart, it takes a lot out of you emotionally. Even though football is a physical game, it is 90 percent mental. To go out after any loss is very hurtful. As a coaching staff, we go in on Sundays and analyze the film, reviewing what we did well and what we need to improve. On Monday, we meet with the team and do the same thing. At that point, we Ôflush it' and move on to the game at hand. If you focus totally on your next opponent, you can get over a tough loss. That's what we did two weeks ago after losing to East Tennessee State. We came out a new team at Furman.Ó
In addition to hosting nationally-ranked Georgia Southern on Oct. 12, Western will have its annual Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on that Saturday. Keith LeClair, Lori Lyons Wilson, Thomas ÒBubbaÓ Wilson, Paul Jones and Clyde Simmons will be this year's inductees. The ceremony is open to the public and is set to start at 10:30 am on the Ramsey Center concourse prior to the Catamount-Eagle contest, which starts at 2 pm.
