Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina sophomore cornerback/kick returner T. Alford was released from the hospital Sunday after suffering a third degree concussion during the Catamounts' game with East Tennessee State Sept. 28. The injury came late in the fourth quarter on a kickoff return.
Alford's CT scans were negative Saturday night but he remained in the hospital until Sunday for further observation. He will not practice for two weeks. At that time, he will be reevaluated as to the extent of his absence.
"We are relieved to find out T. is going to be OK, even though it will be a process to recover," said WCU head coach Kent Briggs. "T. has been a valuable player in our program and has been instrumental on special teams. He will truly be missed from our lineup."
Alford is averaging 20.1 yards per kick return, to rank sixth in the Southern Conference, and has registered six tackles with one pass breakup on the season.
