Western Carolina's 2002 season opener at Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 31 will be televised live throughout the region on cable systems which offer Charter Sports Southeast orCSS-TV. (Please consult your local listings for availability.) The contest, played at Liberty's Williams Stadium, is set to begin at 3:30 pm.
Saturday's meeting with Liberty will be the fourth between the Cats and Flames. Western Carolina holds a 2-1 advantage in the series, including a 20-10 victory at Lynchburg in 1996 and a 63-0 decision last season in Cullowhee.
Western Carolina has one other television game scheduled for 2002, as Fox Sports Net South will broadcast WCU regular-season finale versus Appalachian State. The annual "Battle for the Old Mountain Jug" is set for 3:30 pm on Nov. 16 at WCU's Whitmire Stadium/Water Field.
Western Carolina University Alumni and Friends Invitedto Meal Prior to Kickoff
The newly forming Western Club of Virginia is holding a Western-style BBQ pregame meal before the Cats' contest against Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon at the Wingate Inn (3777 Candlers Mountain Road) Lynchburg. The game begins at 3:30 pm and the Wingate Inn is within walking distance of the stadium.
Catamount fans are invited to bring their family and enjoy a BBQ meal with fellow Western alumni and friends. The meal, prepared by the Silver Pig, includes chopped barbeque, catfish, baked beans, slaw, hushpuppies, rolls, iced tea - the works - for only $10 per person.
