Cullowhee, N.C. - On Friday, April 7, the Western Carolina football team will hold its annual Spring Game, starting at 8:00 pm at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field. The game will consist of offense No.1 teaming with defense No.2, and offense No.2 teaming with defense No.1 (the 1's with face the 1's and the 2's will face the 2's). In order to make the scrimmage as game-like as possible, the score and time will be kept. Along with the host of activities surrounding the game, the Catamounts are excited about getting under the lights.

"The coaching staff has been very pleased with the effort and hard work the team has shown us over the past few months," said offensive coordinator Marty Lowe. "We are looking forward to the culmination of spring drills and seeing the improvement we have made as an offense as well as a team."

The Catamounts' new defensive coordiantor, Don Powers, is equally as eager for the game. "This game is more than just a scrimmage for our players, it is a game rehearsal. With all of our new defensive players, it is important for them to learn to carry the responsibility of wearing the purple shirt. We will continue to work on building our fundamentals and developing the necessary poise when it comes to fighting on the battlefield."

In correlation with the game, the WCU Athletic Department has partnered with the American CAncer Society and Relay for Life in the fight against cancer. With Catamount head coach Kent Briggs serving as the honorary chairperson, Relay for Life will be stationed at the Hinds University Center (UC) and will begin their 24-hour walk at 7:00 pm, ending at 7:00 am. At half-time of the football game, the groups participating in the walk will make their way to the stadium for the Miss Relay for Life competition. Each group has nominated one male member to represent their organization in which the male will dress up as Miss Relay for Life, with the crowd deciding who wins through applause. The winner of the contest will win a Dominos pizza party for their entire group that night at the UC. In addition, all donations raised by the Athletic Department will be donated to the American Cancer Socitety in the name of the winner's organization.

Following the game, at approximately 10:00 pm, Relay for Life will begin the Luminaria Ceremony in front of the UC. The ceremony is a time honored tradition that celebrates hope through lighting luminaries for all those who have affected by cancer. Luminaries can be purchased on site and all proceeds go to cancer research.

Transportation between the UC to the stadium will be provided by a colorfully decorated Cat Tran shuttle that only runs to the two locations throughout the game.

Don't miss out on your chance to support the Cats as well the fight against cancer.
