CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) - Fred Boateng rushed 28 times for 152 times and three touchdowns as Western Carolina dominated the second half of its 44-17 win against VMI on Saturday.

Western Carolina (5-3, 4-2 Southern Conference) was tied with VMI (1-6, 1-4) at halftime, but outscored them 27-0 over the last two quarters.

The Catamounts had 338 rushing yards to just 40 for VMI, which averaged 1.3 yards a carry.

VMI's only touchdown on offense came at 14:05 of the second quarter on a 23-yard pass from Joey Gibson to Pedro Garcia to close Western Carolina's lead to 14-10.

Derik Screen scored for VMI at 7:36 of the second on a 2-yard fumble recovery to give his team its only lead of the game at 17-14.

Shon Rowser kicked a 23-yard field goal at 1:36 of the second to tie the game.

Western scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half, including two by Boateng.

Brian Gaither threw a 17-yard pass to Brian Rucker at 8:32 of the third to give the Catamounts a 24-17 lead. Gaither was 8-for-15 for 107 yards.

Gibson completed just 6-of-19 passes for 79 yards.

Manny DeShauteurs ran 13 times for 87 yards and a touchdown for Western Carolina.
