Johnson City, Tenn. - After day two of the Southern Conference Track & Field Tournament, Virginia LaCombe finished on top in the women's heptathlon with 4,790 points, giving the Catamounts ten points for her first place finish. Rosalyn Hood finished third with 4,603 points, and Altavise Franklin placed fifth at 4,444, which gave Western Carolina 20 points for the competition.
Women's finals for the day include the 10,000 meter run in which Holly Bright finished in seventh place for the Catamounts at 41:21.26 earning two team points. In the 3,000 meter run, Alissa Short placed fifth with a time of 12:11.92 earning four points. In the long jump, Rosalyn Hood finished third at 18' 5" earning six points, Kamata Potts finished fifth at 18' 3.75" earning four points, and Cedea Bowden finished eighth in the event at 17' 11.5" earning one point.
In the women's shot put, the Catamounts took the fifth, sixth and seventh spots. Altavise Franklin threw for 39' 8.5" earning four points, Kiley Wright threw for 39' 5" earning three points and Kineta Williams threw for 38' 6.75" for two points. In the hammer throw, Kineta Williams scored three points, throwing for 126'.
In the men's decathlon, Jared Maliska leads all Catamounts, finishing second with 5,746 points for eight team points. Josh Langley placed fifth with 5,391 points for 4 team points.
Men's finals for the day include the 10,000 meter run for which Jesse Norman finished seventh at 33:07.08 for two points. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Ben Watkins finished fourth at 9:41.09 for five points. Kelvin Wiley finished on top in the high jump at 6' 8" for ten points. Teddy Burgis finished third in the event at 6' 6" for six points, and Bobby Robinson placed eighth at 6' 2" for one point.
In the men's long jump, Doug Petway placed sixth at 22' 9.75" for three points. For the shot put, Jeb Hall finished second throwing for 50' 9.25" for eight points. In the hammer throw Nick McNeil placed second throwing for 156' 6" for eight points and Jeb Hall finished in seventh at 127' 3" for two points.
The final day of the Southern Conference Tournament is tomorrow (Saturday). The Lady Catamounts are trying to defend their women's title while the men are trying to overturn Appalachian State who won last year.
