WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
The Wake Forest volleyball team will look to wrap up its 2006 season on a winning note, as the Demon Deacons host Florida State and Miami this week. The Deacs will face the Seminoles on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. Wake will play the Hurricanes on Senior Night the following evening at 7 p.m.
The Wake Forest-Miami match will be broadcast live online at www.ACCSelect.com.
The Deacons are coming off a pair of losses at Virginia and Virginia Tech last weekend. The defeats dropped Wake below the .500 mark for the first time since it was 4-5 on Sept. 16. Wake Forest is 14-15 overall and 10-10 in the ACC entering Tuesday's competition.
The Demon Deacons are looking to put together back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2000-01 when they had four straight winning campaigns from 1998-2001. Wake finished 2005 with a 17-14 overall record.
Wake is also seeking a program-record 11 ACC victories. The Deacs tied the record with a 10-12 conference mark last season and a 10-10 record this year.
The Deacons are looking to avenge losses to both Florida State and Miami earlier this fall. The Seminoles swept Wake Forest on Oct. 20 in Tallahassee and the Hurricanes took down the Deacs in four games two days later in Coral Gables.
Florida State enters Tuesday's match 18-11 overall and 12-8 in the ACC. FSU, who is coming off a four-game win at NC State on Friday, has lost five of its last seven matches, dating back to Oct. 29. The `Noles are 8-3 on the road in 2006.
Wake Forest and Florida State have met 21 times since 1996. The Seminoles hold a 16-5 advantage and have won three of the last four meetings. FSU has not swept a season series from the Deacs since 2002.
Miami is coming off a three-game sweep at NC State on Saturday. The Hurricanes are 11-18 overall and 8-12 in the ACC. Miami has lost four of its last six matches, dating back to Nov. 2.
The Deacs and `Canes have met just four times previous to Wednesday's match. Miami leads the all-time series 3-1. Wake's only win over Miami was a five-game victory at home last year.
