The Wake Forest volleyball team (13-15, 6-8 ACC) travels south this weekend to play No. 23 Georgia Tech (26-5, 11-3) Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Atlanta and Clemson (16-13, 7-7) Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. in Clemson, S.C., in its final week of conference play.
The Demon Deacons could tie for fifth in the ACC with two wins, finish as high as sixth with a split and remain in seventh with two loses. Wake lost 3-1 to then 20th-ranked Georgia Tech Oct. 19 in Winston-Salem and swept Clemson 3-0 Oct. 15 at home.
Wake Forest split a pair of matches last week, blanking NC State 3-0 on Friday and then taking 12th-ranked North Carolina four games before falling 3-1 on Saturday.
Junior outside hitter Sara Beth DeLisle led Wake Forest last weekend with 23 kills and 32 digs. She had nine kills and 11 digs against NC State and then put away 14 more kills, 21 digs and four blocks against No. 12 North Carolina on Saturday. DeLisle is second on the team with 224 digs, she has the third most kills on the club with 227 and is second on the squad with 663 total attacks.
Middle blockers Jessica Hauff and Christy Williams took care of business last week. Hauff followed up a .538 attacking percentage against NC State, consisting of seven kills and no errors, with a .480 attack percentage against #12 North Carolina, putting away 12 more kills with no errors to go with five blocks. A junior, Hauff is second on the team with 72 blocks this season and has a 3.07 attack percentage in ACC games. Williams came off the bench to hit .462 against the Wolfpack with eight kills in two games. The freshman then hit .333 against the Tar Heels with six kills and three blocks in three games. She leads the team with 0.98 blocks per game, third with 60 total blocks, second with a .343 attack percentage and third with 2.67 kills per game.
Phillips turned in another pair of solid performances in her final conference games at home. The all-time leader in assists at Wake Forest, Phillips leads the team and is ranked sixth in the ACC with 11.81 assists per game. She also leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with a .344 attack percentage. Phillips tallied 29 assists, six digs, three service aces and five kills with no errors in two games against NC State and then had 55 assists, 18 digs, three blocks, one ace and six kills against #12 North Carolina.
Georgia Tech leads the series with Wake Forest 12-6 and the Demon Deacons are 5-14 against Clemson. The Tigers play Duke on Friday, before hosting Wake on Saturday.
