Wake Forest Travels to Durham to Face ACC Leader Duke

Nov. 6, 2006

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team will hit the road on Tuesday, traveling to Durham to face Duke in the first of five straight road matches. The Demon Deacons and Blue Devils will square off at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Deacs are looking to even the season series with the ACC-leading Blue Devils. Duke handed Wake a three-game loss in Winston-Salem earlier this fall.

Wake Forest is coming off a three-game sweep of NC State on Friday. The Deacons have won two straight matches after enduring a four-match losing streak.

The Demon Deacons enter Tuesday's competition 13-11 overall and 9-7 in the ACC. Wake is currently in fifth place in the league but within reasonable striking distance of second-place Virginia.

Duke has almost run away with the conference title this season. The Blue Devils are 21-3 overall and 14-1 in the ACC. Their only league blemish was a five-game setback at Georgia Tech on Oct. 27.

Tuesday's meeting will be the 46th all-time between the two schools. Duke holds a sizable advantage in the series at 36-9 and has won six straight meetings dating back to 2003.

Wake Forest will head north this coming weekend as it plays at Boston College and Maryland. The Demon Deacons will face the Eagles on Friday at 8 p.m. and the Terrapins Sunday at 1 p.m. Wake is seeking a season sweep of both squads.
