Wake Crushes NC State, 3-0, In Final Home Match
Harmsworth, Horne lead women's volleyball to victory.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest defeated NC State handily 3-0 in the team's
final home game of the 1999 regular season at Reynolds Gym Saturday evening.
The Demon Deacons held the Wolfpack to a -.022 hitting percentage
for the match, forcing 24 NC State errors. Wake registered 47 kills of its
own, including 18 in the third game. The Deacs, starting their four
seniors, won the first game 15-4, and had only two errors in the game.
In the second game, which Wake Forest won 15-6, NC State had eight
errors and gave up 17 Deacon kills. The third game saw Wake win a 15-9
decision, as the Deacs held the Wolfpack to only a -.114 hitting
percentage. The Deacons never trailed in the match.
Three Deacs registered double-figure kills. Senior outside hitter
Sharon Harmsworth and senior outside hitter Katie Horne each had 12 kills
in the match, while junior middle blocker Jessica Hood recorded 11 kills.
Freshman setter Ashlee Phillips had a match-high 24 assists and junior
Julie Cowley, who entered the match in the third game, recorded 18.
Charese Williams led NC State with nine kills. Lisa Liberi
registered five kills along with five digs. Setter Erin Vesey registered a
team-high 20 assists and seven digs.
Wake Forest improves to 23-7 overall and 9-5 in ACC play. The
Deacons will travel to Clemson on November 12 and to Georgia Tech in the
team's final regular season game on November 13.
