BLACKSBURG, VA - Senior Morgan Havig posted a match-high four block assists, but it wasn't enough as the Wake Forest volleyball team dropped its eighth straight match to the Virginia Tech Hokies, 3-0 (26-30, 25-30, 27-30) Friday night at Cassell Coliseum. The Deacs drop to 8-10 overall (0-8 ACC) while the Hokies improve to 11-8 overall (5-2 ACC).

The Deacs opened up the match going point for point with the Hokies, up until the 9-8 mark when three consecutive attack errors plagued Wake Forest and started Virginia Tech on a 8-1 run. Not serving for more than three points in a row and making 13 errors on 35 attempts, the Deacs could not catch up and fell in the first game 30-26.

In the second game, the Deacs again kept their opponents point for point until the 12-11 mark when Rachel Dulla came to the line and served for four points taking Wake on a 7-2 run. Attempting to close the gap at game point, Valerie Rydberg came to the line. A kill by Lauren Peterson and another by Havig kept the Deacs alive a little bit longer, but Virginia Tech sealed game two 30-25.

Wake Forest stayed alive in the third game, taking its first significant lead of the match at at the 16-18 mark. Coming back and tying the game at 20-20, the Hokies took four consecutive points, in addition to the lead. A kill by Rydberg and another by Stern at the 29-27 mark wasn't enough as the Deacs fell in the third, 30-27.

As a team the Deacs were out-hit by their opponents, .087 to .213 for the lowest attack percentage of the season. Individually, junior Erin Borhart led the team with 33 assists, while Stern posted 10 kills.

Wake Forest will look to crack the losing streak against Winthrop Saturday night at Reynolds Gymnasium. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
