Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team improved its record to 11-6 overall with a 3-0 (15-2, 15-4, 15-6) win over the visiting Elon Phoenix Tuesday evening at Reynolds Gym. With the win, the Deacons took their first victory in five games as the team stepped out of the ACC for a non-conference match.

The Deacons, who trailed only once in the early stages of game three, took control of the match early, jumping out to a 14-2 lead in the first game. The second game was slightly more of a battle for the young Deacs, who scored eight unanswered points to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The Phoenix took its only lead in the third game, a 1-0 lead to start off the final game of the match.

Wake was led by junior outside hitter Margaret Davidson and freshman outside hitter Sara Beth DeLisle, who each recorded 10 kills. The 10 kills marked a career-high for DeLisle, who previously recorded nine kills against Clemson. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips tallied a match-high 37 assists. Wake Forest held Elon to a .056 hitting percentage, while registering a .455 percentage as a team. Junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya led the Deacon defense with 10 digs. 10 Deacons saw action in the match, the largest number of substitutions for Wake Forest this season.

Elon was led by Laura Griffin, who recorded seven kills for the Phoenix, while Robyn West added six. Beth Alexander set a team-high 13 balls and two different Elon players registered five digs. Cristina Zagroda and Melaney Heagy each totaled five digs to lead the Phoenix defense.

"I'm pleased with our team's effort tonight and with the win," head coach Valorie Baker said. "We had an opportunity to play a number of freshmen and I was happy with the way they were able to maintain our level of play. This is a great win going back into conference play this weekend at North Carolina."

The Deacons improve to 11-6 overall, while remaining 2-4 in ACC play. Wake returns to league action with matches at North Carolina and NC State this Friday and Saturday.
