College Park, MD - The Wake Forest volleyball squad took its first ACC
win of the 2000 season, with a 3-1 (10-15, 15-10, 15-11, 15-11) victory
at Maryland Tuesday evening.
Wake dropped the first game 10-15, but battled back in game two to even
the match up at one game apiece. The Deacs were extended in the final
two games, but were able to muster up enough offense to keep the Terps
at bay. Maryland's 47 points marked the most points Wake has given up
this season in a Deacon victory.
The Deacons were led by junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya, who
registered 28 kills and 57 attacks in the match. Defensively, she also
totaled 25 digs - a match-high. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips
assisted on a career-high 61 balls, while junior middle blocker Margaret
Davidson recorded 14 kills. Senior middle blocker Corie Miles added 11
kills for the Deacs.
Sophomore setter Lindsay Davey recorded a career-high 62 assists in the
loss for the Terps. Senior middle hitter Maren Stuart chipped in with 16
kills and sophomore outside hitter Amanda Ayres added 13 kills for
Maryland.
Wake Forest, which improves to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play, will
visit the Virginia Cavaliers September 22 for the team's second
conference match. Wake returns home October 4 for a conference showdown
with Georgia Tech.
