Volleyball Takes #3 Southern California Four Games

PROVO, Utah - The Wake Forest volleyball team took third-ranked and undefeated Southern California to four games before losing. The Demon Deacons are the first opponents that the Women of Troy have not swept this season. After suffering a 30-14 setback in the first game, Wake Forest came back and took the second game 30-26 from USC, before falling 30-20, 30-20 in the final two frames.

Sophomore middle blocker Kim Stern led Wake Forest with 14 kills on 27 attempts to go with four blocks. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valerie Rydberg added 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips had 41 assists and a pair of service aces.

Apirl Ross led Southern California with 26 kills to go with 12 digs, four blocks and three service aces. The Women of Troy, who sport six members of the national team on their roster, had three players reach double digit kills.

Wake Forest falls to 2-2 with the loss and USC improves to 5-0 with the win. Wake continues action at the BYU Mizuno Classic with a 8:00 p.m. (6:00 pm MDT) match tonight versus the host team, Brigham Young.
