Karin Coetzee of Wake Forest advanced into the quarterfinals of the 2003 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with a straight set victory over Zerene Reyes of Florida, but the junior dropped her next match in three tough sets.
Coetzee had little trouble with Reyes in her second round match. Coetzee cruised into the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Reyes defeated Emily Marker of Maryland in her first round match.
With the spot in the semifinals on the line, Coetzee took the first set over Anda Perianu from Oklahoma, 7-5, but Coetzee dropped the next two sets, 6-0, 6-2. The loss for Coetzee sanpped an eight match winning streak. The junior closes her fall season with a record 14-3.
Coetzee and the rest of the Demon Deacons open the dual match play season on Jan. 31 at home against Charlotte. The match will begin at Noon.
