The No. 2 seeded North Carolina Tar
Heels downed the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 4-1 to advance to the
championship match of the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis
Championship at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
North Carolina won the doubles point with victories from
No. 2 Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis as well as at No. 3 from Kate
Pinchbeck and Lee Bairos. Turning their attention to singles, the Tar
Heels picked up victories at No. 4 from Mojzis, No. 5 from Bairos and
No. 6 Cline to win the match 4-1.
The lone victory for Wake Forest came from No. 1 singles
as Bea Bielik defeated Marlene Mejia 6-3, 6-0.
With the win, North Carolina improves its record to 21-4
while Wake Forest dops to 21-5 with the loss. The Tar Heels will face
the top-seeded Blue Devils for the championship tomorrow, April 21 at
11:00 a.m. The Demon Deacons will await a bid for the NCAA Tournament.
