ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team made quick work of
eighth-seeded Clemson on Friday afternoon, cruising to an 4-0 victory in
first-round action of the ACC Women's Tennis Championship.
The Deacons started off strong by capturing the doubles point. At No. 1
doubles, the Wake duo of Bea Bielik and Janet Bergman won 8-0, while
Deacons Maren Haus and Aimee Smith teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 2
doubles.
In singles, Bielik, playing the No. 1 position, cruised to a 6-1, 6-0
win over Clemson's Anna Savitskaya. WFU's Jackie Houston then posted a
6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles over Ana Stiglic. Bergman then
clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Christina Oldock at No.
2 singles. All other matches were suspended after Wake Forest clinched
the team win.
The Deacons return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to face either
North Carolina or Virginia in a semifinal contest.
