WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team lifted its record to 14-1 and improved to 2-0 in the ACC with a 5-2 victory over Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Center.

The fifth-ranked Demon Deacons also posted its sixth victory over a top-25 opponent this season, as Georgia Tech entered the match ranked 21st. With the loss, the Jackets fall to 11-4, 1-1 in ACC play.

Wake Forest won the first point of the match by taking two of the three doubles contests. At No. 1 doubles, the nation's top-ranked tandem of Bea Bielik and Janet Bergman won 8-1 over Tech's Mysti Morris and Sekita Grant. Deacons Karin Coetzee and Aimee Smith also picked up a win at No. 3, defeating Fallon Koon and Laura Ozolins, 8-5. Tech salvaged one of the doubles matches, as Jaime Wong and Mason Miller took Wake freshmen Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz to a tiebreaker at No. 2, winning 9-8.

Wake Forest claimed the match victory with three quick wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 5 singles. Martzolf, ranked 56th nationally in singles, made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Miller. At No. 1, Bielik, ranked No. 1, won 6-1, 6-1 over Morris, while Coetzee clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Grant at No. 5.

Tech picked a win at No. 6, where Ozolins defeated Smith, 6-2, 6-1. Wake responded with a victory at No. 2 where Bergman, ranked 19th nationally, defeated 42nd-ranked Wong, 6-4, 6-1.

The closest match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Tech's 65th-ranked Catherine Gunn defeated Wake's Maren Haus, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. After dropping the first set, Haus won three straight games to win the second set, then went up 3-0 in the third. Gunn came back to tie it up at 5-5, then took the third set 7-5 for the victory.

Wake Forest, in the middle of a six-match homestand, returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when it hosts sixth-ranked Florida. Match time is set for 12 noon at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
