March 15, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 13th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team continues its spring season on Friday at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The 54-hole event is hosted by No. 26 LSU at its par-72, 6,424-yard University Club and will feature 18 holes of play over three days.

The Demon Deacons' five-player team will consist of senior Mandy Goins, junior Laura Crawford, sophomores Nannette Hill and Jean Chua and freshman Dolores White.

"We'll have a young team this weekend, but they are fresh and ready to go," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We'd like to improve upon our ninth-place finish in California and this will be a strong test to see how we play."

Joining Wake in the 21-team field is Alabama, Auburn, Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, the College of Charleston, Duke, Furman, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, North Carolina, NC State, UNC Wilmington, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia and host LSU.

The highly competitive field boasts three teams in the Top 10, including top-ranked Duke, No. 5 Auburn, and No. 7 Vanderbilt. Wake Forest is ranked No. 13 in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin Poll, while Tennessee (No. 14), Virginia (No. 17) and North Carolina (No. 22) hold spots in the Top 25.

Crawford led the Demon Deacons at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, shooting an even-par 71 in the tournament's final round. Crawford finished in a tie for 20th at 75-80-71=226 (+13) to help the Deacs place in the Top 10.
