BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team moved up a notch to eighth place after the second round of the Lady Gamecock Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Deacons shot 304 on the day to sit 35 behind Duke, the leader.
Individually, junior Nuria Clau leads the Deacons in a six-way tie for 13th place shooting five-over par (74-75=149). Clau improved six spots from sitting in 19th place yesterday. Freshman Ashley Hoagland kept her tied for 19th place standing shooting 76 in the second round for six-over par (74-76=150). Junior Maria Beautell dropped two spots to tied for 33rd place shooting nine-over par (76-77=153). Senior Katie Brenny is in 72nd place and senior Veronica Prado-Lacoste rounds out the Deacon five in 74th place after the second day of competition.
Wake Forest sits behind Duke, the leader, but is ahead of ACC rivals North Carolina (9th) and Florida State (10th).
Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh of Duke is holding on to her top-ranked status shooting four-under par after the second day.
The final round will start at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C.
