WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Schuye LaRue scored 11 of her 19 points during two key second-half runs as No. 24 Virginia beat Wake Forest 77-61 on Saturday in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

LaRue sparked a 14-2 run to give Virginia (7-3) a 49-40 lead with 13:42 left. She had three steals and four points during the run.

Wake Forest (5-2) pulled within five on a basket by Kirkpatrick with just over seven minutes left, but Virginia went on a 17-4 run to take a 77-59 lead with 1:33 left. LaRue had seven points during the run.

LaRue also had eight rebounds and four steals. She was 8-of-13 from the field.

Telisha Quarles had 17 points, six assists and four steals for Virginia (7-3, 1-0). Svetlana Volnaya added 13 points.

Kristen Shaffer led Wake Forest with 16 points, four assists and four steals. Olivia Dardy had 15 points and Brenda Kirkpatrick added 12.
