The Lady Chanticleers opened the game with a 13-2 run in just 5:22 as Alison Bach connected on a pair or treys during the stretch. After trading baskets, Wake Forest came right back using a 13-0 spurt to take a 17-15 advantage on Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick's old-fashioned three-point play with 10:06 remaining in the first half. The Lady Deacons built as much as a five-point advantage twice during the first half, but McNeil's jumper and Bach's trey with 1:49 remaining on the clock tied the game at 28-28. In the final minute of the first half, Bach connected on a pair of free throws and Kirkpatrick answered with a layup to knot the score at 30-30 at halftime.

Coastal would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way as Wake Forest could close the gap to no closer than five points. Wake Forest attempted to foul the Lady Chants in the final 3:40 seconds to close the gap, but Coastal Kept the Lady Deacs at bay by connecting on 17-of-20 from the charity stripe in the final minutes.

McNeil, who connected on 12-of-14 free throws, added a team-high nine rebounds to her 24-point effort. Bach connected on three treys as she netted 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.
