WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Demon Deacon cross country teams have picked up some momentum heading into the ACC Championships Oct. 28 in Raleigh, N.C. Both squads ran Oct. 14 at sites of future NCAA meets - the women at Furman, the host of the Southeast Regional Nov. 11 and the men at Iowa State, the host of the National Championships Nov. 20. After good showings at both events, Wake Forest is ready for the post season.

The 23rd-ranked women are coming off a victorious weekend, running away with the Pre-Regional title in Greenville, S.C., Oct. 14. Sara Day led the Deacs, finishing first of the collegians at the event and second overall with a time of 17:34 on the 5,000 meter course. Day, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., has led the Demon Deacons in all four races that she has competed in this season, finishing no lower than fourth place.

The men's squad finished 32nd in the 53-team field at the Pre-Nationals meet in Ames, Iowa, Oct. 14. Ted DeVos paced the Deacs, taking 58th place in 32:00 on the 10,000 meter course. DeVos, a junior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., has led the Demon Deacons in two races this season.

Chris Demetra, a junior math wiz on the menās squad, has devised a set of Cross Country rankings using a mathmatical algorithm that compares head-to-head margin of victory with strength of schedule. His rankings (see below) are listed right below the coachās polls on raceberryjam.com. Demetra currently has his own team unranked in the current polls.
