WINSTON-SALEM, NC -
Eight members of the Wake Forest University men's
and women's track & field teams are headed to the 2001 NCAA Indoor
Championships this Friday and Saturday at the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville, AR. Both the men's and women's teams will send their
Distance Medley Relay squads, Sara Day will run in the Women's
3,000-Meter Run and Jill Snyder will compete in the Women's Mile Run.
Nathan Sisco, Ryan Hamilton, Paul Singleton and Chris Estwanik make up
the men's Distance Medley Relay team that will compete for the Demon
Deacons. These four broke the school record, as well as the conference
record, two weeks ago at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet, running an
automatically qualifying time of 9:37.51.
Snyder, Carol Merritt, Nikeya Green and Day will compete in the women's
Distance Medley Relay. Snyder, Merritt, Green and Kelly Brady broke Wake
Forest's school record with a provisional qualifying time of 11:20.59,
less than a second off of automatically qualifying, two weeks ago at the
Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet.
Snyder, a senior from Lewisburg, PA, will not only compete for Wake
Forest in the DMR, but also the Mile Run. The school record holder in
seven events ran an automatically qualifying time of 4:42.81 in the Mile
Run last week at the Nike Fast Times Invitational and will try to earn
All-American honors again this weekend for the second year in a row.
Day, a senior from Winston-Salem, NC, is also competing in the
3,000-Meter Run, in addition to the DMR. The ACC Champion in both the
3,000 and 5,000, Day broke the school record in the 3,000 with a
provisionally qualifying time of 9:26.00 three weeks ago at the ACC
Championships.
