Three Deacons Earn All-ACC At Indoor Track Championship

Feb. 21, 2005

Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest track stars Annie Bersagel, Eric Seely and Michael Bingham earned All-ACC honors this past weekend at the 2005 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship. All-ACC honors went to the top-three performers in each of the individual events and to the top teams in each of the relays.

Bersagel, a senior from Greeley, Colo. garnered All-ACC honors in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter races this season. She placed first in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 16:20.02, earning her second provisional qualifying mark in that event this season. She placed second in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 9:27.09, earning a provisional qualifying mark in that event as well. In 2003, Bersagel earned All-ACC and All-America honors during the indoor season in the 3,000 meter race.

Seely placed third in the 400 meter race, after sprinting to a 48.82 mark. The junior from Melville, NY earns his first individual All-ACC honors. In last year's championship, he was a part of the 4x400 victorious relay team. Seely set Wake Forest indoor records in the 200, 400 and 500 meter races this season.

Bingham, the youngest member of the top-five finishing heptathletes at the 2005 championship, jumped out to an early lead, winning the first two events, the 60 meter dash and the long jump. He broke a personal record with 5,146 points in the heptathlon, good for a third place finish, and he became the only freshman on the Deacon roster to earn All-ACC honors this season.
