Track and Field Ready To Compete At ACC Indoor Championships

Feb. 18, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest track and field will travel to Clemson, S.C. this weekend to compete at the 2003 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Clemson's Indoor Track and Field facility.

Wake Forest director of track and field Annie Bennett believes her Demon Deacons will be up to the challenge. "Going in, I feel confident that these kids are prepared and eager to represent Wake Forest very well," said Bennett.

"We've tried to strategize and put people in key events to maximize our potential. Our goal as a staff is to have kids come in with excitement, energy and trust and that will lead to a successful future."

The Demon Deacons have been led this season by a senior and a pair of sophomores. Senior Nikeya Green provisionally quaified for the NCAA Championships in the 800m dash at the Meyo Invitational with a time of 2:06.58 which is the second best mark in the ACC this season.

Sophomore Lindsay Neuberger broke the Wake Forest shot put record with a distance of 50-7.75 last weekend at Virginia Tech. That mark is the second best in the ACC this season and made Neuberger an NCAA provisional qualifier.

On the men's side, sophomore Mike Loyd's provisional qualifying time of 7.90 in the 60m hurdles event is the second best mark in the ACC this year, behind only Montrell Person from Georgia Tech.
