Wake Forest Well Represented at NCAA East Track Regional

GAINESVILLE, FL.--Eight members of the Wake Forest track and field team competed last weekend at the NCAA East Track Regional held at the University of Florida's Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Florida.

The best finish by a Demon Deacon belonged to Nikeya Green who placed second overall in the 800m with a time of 2:04.76. Green's time was the fastest of any runner representing the ACC at the NCAA Regional.

In the 1,500m, Anna Sherman placed ninth with a time of 4:24.71 while teammate Anne Bersagel ran a 16:28.96 and finished sixth in the 5,000m event. Rounding out Wake Forest's women in the track events was Selina Sekulic who ran a personal-best 10:42.50 in the 3,000m steeplechase and placed 12th.
 

 

In the field events, All-ACC competitors Lindsay Neuberger and Cassy Richards placed 11th and 17th, respectively in the shot put and long jump events. Neuberger recorded a mark of 50-06.00 while Richards jumped 19-04.00

On the men's side, Michael Loyd placed 12th in the 200m preliminaries with a personal-best time of 21.14 but did not qualify for the finals. Loyd was also scheduled to compete in the 110m hurdles but received a disqualification.

Brad Wharton represented the Deacons in the 1,500m run with a 24th place finish and time of 3:59.13.

The 2004 Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.
