May 14, 2006

Atlanta, Ga. - The Wake Forest track and field teams competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational over the weekend. The Demon Deacons broke two school records with Willie Idlette in the 400 meter dash and the men's 4x100 meter relay team.

Several other Deacons set personal bests in the meet.

Idlette placed fifth overall in the 400 meter dash running a school record time of 46.62 seconds. Idlette broke the record held by Michael Bingham's mark of 46.72 seconds set a couple weeks ago at the Duke Invitational. Idlette also bested his personal best time of 46.82 seconds he ran in the finals at the ACC Championships.

The men's 4x100 team won the event and continued to lower the school record with a time of 39.46 seconds. The team comprised of Michael Bingham, Eric Seely, Kevin Marion and Kerry Major broke the school record it previously set at the Sea Ray Relays.

Marion also won the long jump with a distance of 7.40 meters.

In the 200 meter run, Bingham and Seely each ran regional qualifying times and placed in seventh and eighth respectively. Bingham ran a time of 21.15 seconds and Seely ran a time of 21.19 seconds.

In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Phillip Warsaw set a personal best with a time of 53.07 seconds.

In the women's 1500 meter run, junior Michelle Sikes ran a personal best time of 4:22.45 and placed second in the event. Sikes' time was nine seconds better than her previous best time and also marked a regional qualifying time.

Sophomore Caitlin Chrisman placed ninth in the same event with a time of 4:29.80. Chrisman's time marked a personal best also and was five seconds better than her previous best.
