Track and Field Completes Weekend At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA.-- Select members of the Wake Forest track and field team competed Friday and Saturday at the final two days of the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Other Demon Deacons traveled to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Virginia Tech Outdoor Invitational held Saturday at the Johnson-Miller Track Center.

At the Penn Relays, Wake Forest's men's distance medley relay team competed for the first time this season and turned in a time of 9:57.78 which was good for fourth place out of 18 teams in section one.

Also for the Deacon men, Michael Loyd ran a 14.38 in the 110m hurdles and finished with a time of 61.12 in the 400m hurdles event. Adam Gabrault competed in the hammer throw on Saturday and placed 20th with a distance of 162-08.
 

 

On the women's side, Wake Forest's 4x800m relay team of Anna Sherman, Hanna Bremler, Shauna Danos and Nikeya Green placed fifth with a season-best time of 8:34.79 in the College Women's 4x800m Championship of America division.

In Blacksburg on Saturday, Catherine Fortin-Major finished more than 20 seconds ahead of her only competitor in the 3,000m Steeplechase event with a time of 11:08.26. Kara Hill finished second in the 1,500m and ran a 4:45.85, narrowly missing her best time of the season by tenths of a second.

Kayla Gassmann, Catherine Muehleib and Jill Ahrens also represented the Wake Forest women Saturday while Demon Deacon assistant coach Kim Schiemenz won both the 200m and 100m hurdles events, competing for team Nike.

On the men's side, Willie Idlette recorded top-five finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes while Westin Galloway ran the 1,500m for the first time this season.

In the field events, Jesse Richert jumped a season-best 6-03.50 in the high jump to place third. Josh Carter and Mike Piscetellil each competed in both the shot put and discus throw events while Michael Hauck won the javelin throw with a season-best distance of 183-01.50. Alan Susi also competed in the javelin throw for Wake Forest.
