The Wake Forest men's and women's track & field teams finished up competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships Saturday and the men placed seventh out of nine teams and the women took eighth out of nine. Jamie Grayzer won the ACC Championship in the heptathlon and Cliff Neal won the hammer throw (193-10), while Michael Eskind earned All-ACC honors in the Decathlon and Chris Estwanik earned All-ACC honors in both the 1,500m (3:45.01) and 5,000m with a pair of second place finishes. Nikeya Green provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 2:07.49 in the 800m.
Nathan Sisco took sixth place in the 800m with a time of 1:51.45. He finished 12th in the 1,500m with a time of 3:57.18. Mike Altieri came in fourth in the 1,500m with a time of 3:47.83. Estwanik set a personal record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:21.83. He was followed by teammates Ted DeVos (7th, 14:37:53), Jimmy Butler (13th, 14:56.51), Sean Nagorny (22nd, 15:13.29) and Brandon Bartholomew (28th, 15:28.06). Tom Tymann shattered his personal best in the shot put with a mark of 52-2.5, good for seventh place. The Demon Deacons placed seventh in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:18.27 and eighth in the 4x100m relay with a 42.86. Fabian Davis came in ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 46-11 and he tied his personal best in the high jump with a mark of 6-8.75, placing 11th. Michael Piscetelli finished ninth in the decathlon with a score of 5013, while Eskind took third with a personal record score of 6654.
On the women's side, Nikeya Green took fourth in a very fast 800m with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:07.49 and Adralyn Wendel came in eighth with a personal record 2:10.94. Jackie Muscente finished seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 1:03.76. Wake's women took seventh in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:49.18. Rachel Burns cleared 5-1.75 in the high jump for seventh place. Carol Merritt placed eighth in the 400m with a time of 55.39. Anne Bersagel ran a 4:30.76 in the 1,500m for ninth place and Tess Fath finished 12th with a 4:41.65. Bersagel also led the way in the 5,000m with a 16:53.46 for eighth place. She was followed by Kara Mullin (13th, 17:31.00), Jill Miller (17:31.10), Danielle Coon (17th, 17:43.41), Becca Veenstra (19th, 18:32.14) and Caitlyn Dempsey (21st, 18:42.01). Sandra Jenkins took ninth in the shot put with a mark of 45-2.25 and Jen Leesman was tenth with a 43-3.25. Jenkins finished eighth in the discus throw with a personal record mark of 137-4. Grayzer (1st, 4882), Jill Kovalcik (6th, 4318) and Burns (7th, 4321) all set personal records in the heptathlon.
Florida State won the men's championship and North Carolina captured the women's. Wake Forest will return to action next weekend when the Demon Deacons travel to Philadelphia to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays. Complete results from the ACC Championships are available at flashresults.com.
