ATLANTA, GA-- The Wake Forest Outdoor Track & Field teams had another
productive weekend posting good marks at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Nathan Sisco won the 1,500-Meter Run with a time that provisionally
qualifies him for the NCAA Championships and Carol Meritt broke three
school records in the 200-Meter Dash, 400-Meter Dash and the 4x400 Relay
Sisco, a redshirt freshman from Lebanon, NJ, was the 1,500-Meter Run
champion with a NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 3:44.75. Alan Susi
won the Javelin Throw for the third meet in a row, this instance with a
distance of 19111. DaVaughn Mellerson was the runner-up in the Shot
Put with a toss of 49:11 and the runner-up in the Discus Throw with a
throw of 1480, the Deacs best so far this season. Cliff Neal was the
runner-up in the Hammer Throw, reaching 1776ä Branston Williams ran a
season best time in the 400-Meter Hurdles, finishing ninth with a 55.19.
The mens 4x400 Meter Relay team took fifth place with a time of
>3:18.86. J.T. Kuretich cleared 141 ¹ä in the pole vault for his best
mark of the season and T.J. Thompson set a career best in the triple
jump, taking sixth place with a leap of 451ä.
On the womens side, Carol Merritt broke a decade-old school record in
the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 55.90, shaved a few seconds off her own school record in the
200-Meter Dash with a time of 24:36 and then and then the freshman from
Raleigh, NC, led Wake Forest to a first place finish in the 4x400-Meter
Relay with a school record breaking time of 3:47.31. Nikeya Green, Kelly Brady and Shauna Danos all finished in the
top five in the 800-Meter Run. Britton Stackhouse improved her time in
the 5,000-Meter Run by almost an entire minute and Catherine
Fortin-Major ran a season best time in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase,
taking fourth place with a 11:43.34. Rachel Burns tied for third place
in the high jump with a teams best height of 52 ¹ä. Liz Washam took
third place in the Pole Vault, clearing 910 ¸ä. Sandra Jenkins placed
fifth in the Shot Put with a toss of 4110.75ä and sixth in the Discus
Throw with a throw of 1215ä
Meanwhile at the Duke Invitational in Durham, NC, Paul Singleton ran a career best time in the 800-Meter Run, finishing sixth with a time of 1:50.15. Chris Estwanik and
Sean Nagorny represented Wake Forest in the Mens 5,000-Meter Run,
placing 11th and 12th respectively, while Denise Hefferin was the lone
Deacon in the Womens 5,000-Meter Run, taking 13th place with a time of
18:01.96.
The Demon Deacons will return to action next weekend when they travel to
Charlotte, NC, to compete in the Charlotte Invitational April 14.
