ATLANTA, GA. -- The Wake Forest track and field team competed Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta on the third weekend of the outdoor season. The Deacons were led by Anna Sherman's first place finish and regional-qualifying time of 4:20.54 in the 1500m event. Sherman was one of five Wake Forest women to place in the top 15 in the 1500m and blew away the second-place finisher by nearly ten seconds.
Also contributing for the Deacs on Saturday was Brad Wharton who set a personal-best time in the men's 1500m run with a regional-qualifying mark of 3:46.54 which was good enough for fourth place overall. Chris Catton, Brian Smith and Kevin Jones also finished in the top 20 of that event. In the men's 5,000m run, Wake's Brandon Bartholomew took home first-place, coming in more than 12 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
Back on the women's side, three Demon Deacons placed in the top seven of Saturday's 800m event.
Shauna Danos led the way in fourth place, followed by
Adralyn Wendel and
Hanna Bremler in sixth and seventh, respectively. In the 5,000m,
Jill Miller placed second out of 16 competitors and freshman
Selina Sekulic took first place in the 3,000m steeplechase event.
The Demon Deacons return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee.
