Track and Field Competes at Stanford, Georgia Tech

Yellow Jacket Invitational Results

The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams competed in two meets over the weekend at the Stanford University Invitational in Stanford, Calif. and the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

Out in Stanford, junior Michelle Sikes ran a lifetime best and regional qualifying time in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:12.42. Sikes' time also marked the fourth best time in school history. Caitlin Chrisman ran a time of 16:43.27 in the same event.

In the men's 1500 meter run, senior Brad Wharton completed the event in a time of 3:49.83 to place third in his section. Senior Sean Stevens placed 21st in the 5000 meter run completing the event in 14:13.50. That time marked his third personal lifetime best in the event.

In Atlanta, several Deacons reached regional qualifying marks. Senior Eric Seely ran a time of 21.05 in the 200 meter dash, winning the event and setting a NCAA regional qualifying time. Sophomore Michael Bingham finished third in the same event and also ran a regional qualifying time. Bingham completed the 200 meters in a time of 21.19 seconds.

Willie Idlette and Mike Loyd also competed in the 200 meter dash running times of 21.54 and 21.63 seconds respectively.
 

 

The 4x100 meter relay team of Kerry Major, Kevin Marion, Idlette and Loyd also set a regional qualifying time of 40.19 seconds and placed second in the event. The 4x400 meter relay team placed third and also reached a regional qualifying time by completing the event with a time of 3:08.26 seconds.

In the long jump, Kevin Marion placed second with a leap of 24-03.50 (7.40m). The distance was also good for a regional qualifying mark.

On the women's side, Merry Placer ran the 800 meter run and placed seventh with a time of 2:17.52. In the 1500 meter run, Carter Ellis placed 15th with a personal best time of 4:54.14.
