Bersagel Automatically Qualifies in 10,000M

Winston-Salem, NC -- The Wake Forest men's and women's outdoor track & field teams enjoyed a productive weekend as the Demon Deacons were in action at various meets around the country.

Palo Alto, CA -- Sophomore distance runner Anne Bersagel captured third place in the women's 10,000M at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field in Palo Alto, CA. Bersagel ran a school record-breaking time of 33.23.52, which automatically qualifies for the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Senior Garick Hill placed 25th in the men's 10,000M with a time of 29.46.14.

Raleigh, NC -- The majority of the Demon Deacons competed this weekend at the 2003 Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State's Paul Deer Track in Raleigh, NC.

The women's 4 x 800M relay team took second place with a time of 8:53.72, while the 4 x 1,500M squad ran a 18:29.95 for third place. Catherine Fortin-Major finished fifth in the 3,000M Steeplechase with a time of 10:59.37 and Kara Mullin came in ninth with a time of 11:54.99. Cassy Richards jumped a 19-1.50 for ninth place in the Long Jump and Shauna Danos ran a 2:14.03 in the 800M for 10th place. In the 5,000M, Courtney Lancashire finished 41st, Risa Rutland in 54th, Danielle Coon in 55th, Rachel Mistur in 56th, Erin Franklin in 57th and Denise Hefferin in 63rd.

Brad Wharton took third in the 1,500M with a time of 3:53.16, while Tom Tymann threw a 53-0.75 in the Shot Put for eighth place. Dave Barrett came in 17th in the 5,000M with a time of 15:26.23 and Jimmy Butler placed 18th with a time of 15:26.86. Paul Singleton ran 1:56.49 in the 800M for 20th place and Sean Stevens finished 32nd in the 5,000M with a time of 14:52.50.
